A Case Report of Tinea Capitis in Children: Utility of Trichoscopy

Background: Tinea capitis (TC) is the most prevalent pediatric superficial dermatophyte infection. Scalp dermoscopy or “trichoscopy” represents a valuable, noninvasive technique for evaluation of patients with hair loss due to TC. Purpose: To characterize trichoscopic findings in children clinical suggestive Case: A 13-year-old boy was presented scaled plaque on his scalp that had appeared 1 month earlier. physical examination revealed scaly, nonerythematous, rounded lesion parietal area head. Wood’s lamp yielded blue fluorescence. Microscopic morphology from fungal culture found typical spindle-shaped macroconidia Microsporum canis. Trichoscopy showed mainly comma hair, corkscrew morse code bent and zig zag hair. The patient started oral griseofulvin 20 mg/kg/day antifungal shampoo 8 weeks. cured after two months treatment trichoscopy returned normal. Discussion: Fungal remains gold standard TC diagnosis, but it needs time. can be an additional tool help evaluate aetiology, follow up this disorder. presence characteristic features (comma hairs, Morse code-like zigzag block i-hairs) predictive present analysis confirmed useful method differentiating between Trichophyton TC, which important perspective different therapeutic approach. Conclusion: not only value diagnosis also etiologic agent follow-up case.
